Sanao Matsuda Biography

Sanao Matsuda, born in 1934, is a makie traditional craft person and the first makie class skilled person here in Japan.

He acquired makie skill from his father Shuetsu, and started leaning from Naoji Terai a living national treasure of Japan from 1955.

He exhibited his makie crafts at Echizen Urushi Lacquerware Show for the first time and received many prizes till now.

He is certified as a makie traditional craft person and the first makie class skilled person here in Japan.

 

2001 Award for Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.        

2000 Award for Chairman of Traditional Artist and Craftsman.

1997 Award for Minister of Labor at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.

1996 Award for Excellent Craftsman Skill at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.

1996 Award for Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.

1995 Award for Chairman of Traditional Art and Crafts’ Association at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.

1994 Award for Minister of Labor at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.

1994 Award for Chief of Life and Industry Bureau, MITI, and Special Prize for Traditional Crafting Skill at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.

1993 Award for Prime Minister of Japan at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.

1991 Award for Minister of International Trade and Industry at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.

1989 Award for Chief of Life and Industry Bureau, MITI at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.

1989 Award for Minister of Labor at All Japan Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition.

From 1980 Prize for Good Design Exhibition 6 times.

From 1956 Award for governor of Fukui Prefecture at Urushi Lacquer-ware Exhibition of Echizen 10 times and won prize 24 times.

From 1955 Award for governor of Fukui Prefecture at General Art Exhibition of Fukui 5times and won prize 5 times.

Won other Prizes 7 times at the All Japan Traditional Art and Crafts Exhibition.
